TAC discusses 2030 planning study
The Transport Advisory
Committee (TAC) at its meeting today (28 November) was briefed on the major
findings and recommendations of the Study on Hong Kong 2030: Planning Vision
and Strategy.
Ends/Wednesday, November 28,
2007
“We note that the study was completed in October 2007.
To implement the proposals recommended under its development strategy,
the Government will work in a concerted manner to translate the planning goal
and directions into specific actions and initiatives. The Development Bureau
has also prepared an action agenda listing out ongoing and new initiatives in
line with the study’s directions,” TAC Chairman Ms Teresa Cheng said.
Members also noted that the study, with sustainable
development as its over-arching goal, had focused its recommended strategy on
three broad directions, namely, providing a quality living environment,
enhancing economic competitiveness, and strengthening links with the Mainland,
and that a spatial development pattern had been formulated on this basis.
“We are glad to note that the Government has made an effort
to address possible traffic impact arising from future population growth
envisaged in the study's recommended development strategy, both in terms of
domestic and cross-boundary travel,” Ms Cheng said.
“We consider the broad directions of the strategy generally
agreeable. When launching the development projects, we hope the
Government will carefully assess their traffic impact.”
