TAC briefed on progress of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

Members of the Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) were updated on the latest progress of the advance work for the Hong Kong - Zhuhai - Macao Bridge (HZMB) and the North Lantau Highway Connection (NLHC) at their meeting today (June 13).

"We are glad to note that the three Governments have reached a consensus on the alignment of the HZMB.  The recommended northern bridge-cum-tunnel alignment, with landings at San Shek Wan in Northwest Lantau, Gongbei in Zhuhai and A Pĕrola in Macao, would cut travelling time between Hong Kong and the other two cities down to below 30 minutes," Ms Teresa Cheng Yuek-wah, Chairman of the TAC, said after the meeting.

The TAC noted that the three governments are now deliberating the findings of the feasibility study for the HZMB with a view to submitting an application to the State Council for the official establishment of the project.

At the meeting, TAC also noted that various alignment options for the NLHC have been investigated for connecting the HZMB to the existing road network.

"We are glad that an alignment that would serve the transport need of the Pearl River West Region and Hong Kong well and, at the same time, minimize the impacts on the environment has been chosen.  This is well in line with the sustainable development principle," Ms Cheng added.
