TAC briefed on road safety measures & Kai Tak Review
At their meeting today (November 25), members of the Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) were briefed on proposed measures to enhance road safety in Hong Kong.
Members noted that a whole range of measures covering legislation, enforcement, publicity, education as well as application of technology have been put forward to combat poor driving behaviour and enhance awareness of safe driving.
"We welcome the comprehensive package of initiatives proposed by the administration. Driving attitude and behaviour have a great bearing on road safety. We see the need for heavier penalties and strengthened enforcement to offer stronger deterrent effects, as well as continuous education and publicity to instil in drivers a correct driving attitude," TAC chairman Ms Teresa Cheng said.
The committee was also briefed by the Planning Department on its Stage 1 public consultation on the planning review for Kai Tak.
"We appreciate the efforts made by the administration to engage the community in the process of building the community visions for this major waterfront site in Victoria Harbour. This would facilitate the preparation of development options for the site for further discussion in the community," Ms Cheng said.
"We hope that the administration will fully take into account the comments received during the public participation period in taking the matter forward," she added.
